Salute Lee Kuan Yew. Farewell Lee Kuan Yew. While you may have left this earthly world and in particular Singapore, the nation you have built, your Singapore Story lives on.
After today, if someone were to ask a Singaporean Me… What has Lee Kuan Yew done for his people? I can reply as follows…
The moment I woke up, I am in my HDB flat. His housing legacy.
Once I step into my toilet/bathroom, I have the tap with potable water. His water legacy.
Once I use the bus and MRT to travel, I am better than my parents in their earlier days, having to travel to Shenton Way from Toa Payoh for 2 hours or even worse. His public transport legacy.
I have shades of trees along the roads and streets to keep myself cool. His greening legacy.
I do not have to worry going out late at night with my parents, without much fear of being mugged. His law and order legacy.
My country is safely secured from external armed threats. His civilian armed forces legacy.
I have good quality, bilingual education because he believed investing in youths. His education legacy.
Singapore today is united regardless of race, language and religion. This is an achievement that is not possible without him. He has spent his life, so much of it, building up a Singaporean Singapore, a country that I am proud to live in and to call myself a Singaporean.
This is his Singapore Story!
Thank you Lee Kuan Yew. I will remember you, Sir. Always.
