Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
耶 穌 對 他 說 、 你 要 盡 心 、 盡 性 、 盡 意 、 愛 主 你 的 神 。
This is the first and great commandment.
這 是 誡 命 中 的 第 一 、 且 是 最 大 的 。
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
其 次 也 相 倣 、 就 是 要 愛 人 如 己 。
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
這 兩 條 誡 命 、 是 律 法 和 先 知 一 切 道 理 的 總 綱 。
If we truly love God and our neighbour, we will naturally keep the commandments. This is looking at God’s law positively. Rather than worrying about all we should not do, we should concentrate on all we can do to show our love for God and others.
To “love God” is to keep the first 4 commandments, and to “love your neighbour” is to obey the last 6. These 2 commandments hang on all the law and the prophets. Thus the “10 commandments” hang on these “2 commandments”.
