いらっしゃいませ (irasshaimase) just means ‘Welcome’, and is said to a customer entering a restaurant or shop.
A waiter in a Japanese restaurant called out “irasshai-mase” when a customer walked passed the restaurant.
The Malay customer asked her daughter what was said by the waiter. “Oh, he said ‘terima kasih’,” the daughter replied.
‘Terima Kasih’ is a Malay language meaning ‘Thank You’.
